Tennis Racket and Balls
Lewiston Recreation Summer Tennis is open to girls & boys from Pre-k all the way through High School. This program is great for beginners to experienced players! 

Summer Tennis is led by Lewiston High School Varsity Girls Tennis Coach Lorraine Bowen. Coach Bowen was the Lewiston High School Assitant Coach for 8 years with Anita Murphy before her retirement in 2021. Coach Bowen helped spearhead the addition of our Fall Tennis Program. Coach Bowen is in her 13th year working for the Lewiston School Department. She is currently teaching STEM at Farwell Elementary School. Coach is excited for another great summer of teaching others how to play the sport she loves! 

Pre-K (Ages 3-4)

Dates: Starts the week of July 8th through the week of August 9th. 
Days of the Week: Choose between Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays sessions. 
Time: 7:45am - 8:30am 
Location: Anita Murphy Tennis Courts at Lewiston High School - 156 East Ave, Lewiston 
Cost: $95.00 Lewiston Resident, $105.00 Non-Resident
Equipment: Tennis racket, comfortable clothing, sneakers, and a water bottle. Tennis rackets are available through the Lewiston Recreation Department. If you would like to borrow one for the season please email Alyssa Davis at aclark@lewistonmaine.gov.
Description: This is a five week, twice a week program. Pre-K Tennis will be following a "Smart Start" format, which will introduce your little athlete to tennis in a fun-non threatening way through skill stations & mini games! Parent/Guardian participation is required, please be prepared to be on the court.
Registration Deadline: Friday, July 5th or as space allows.

Kindergarten - 1st Grade (Ages 4 - 7)

Dates: Starts the week of July 8th through the week of August 9th. 
Days of the Week: Choose between Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays sessions. 
Time: 7:45am - 8:30am 
Location: Anita Murphy Tennis Courts at Lewiston High School - 156 East Ave, Lewiston 
Cost: $95.00 Lewiston Resident, $105.00 Non-Resident

Description: This is a five week, twice a week program. This is the perfect opportunity for your child to learn the fundamentals of the sport. Lessons will focus on stroke basics, hand-eye coordination, movement, and balance through fun drills & mini games!
Registration Deadline: Friday, July 5th or as space allows.

2nd - 3rd Grade (Ages 7 - 9)

Dates: Starts the week of July 8th through the week of August 9th. 
Days of the Week: Choose between Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays sessions. 
Time: 8:30am - 9:30am 
Location: Anita Murphy Tennis Courts at Lewiston High School - 156 East Ave, Lewiston 
Cost: $95.00 Lewiston Resident, $105.00 Non-Resident

Description: This is a five week, twice a week program. Players will learn tennis basics like ground strokes, volleys and footwork in an energetic, fun atmosphere through strategic drills and games that focus on fundamental skills, movement, and ball control through feeding and live ball drills.

4th - 6th Grade (Ages 9 - 12)

Dates: Starts the week of July 8th through the week of August 9th. 
Days of the Week: Choose between Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays sessions. 
Time: 9:30am - 10:30am 
Location: Anita Murphy Tennis Courts at Lewiston High School - 156 East Ave, Lewiston 
Cost: $95.00 Lewiston Resident, $105.00 Non-Resident
Equipment: Tennis racket, comfortable clothing, sneakers, and a water bottle. Tennis rackets are available through the Lewiston Recreation Department. If you would like to borrow one for the season please email Alyssa Davis at aclark@lewistonmaine.gov. 
Description: This is a five week, twice a week program. Players will fine tune tennis basics and will get an introduction to strategy and court sense for singles and doubles play. Loads of balls hit and points played with a coach providing immediate feedback.
Registration Deadline: Friday, July 5th or as space allows.

7th - 12th Grade (Ages 12 - 18)

Dates: Starts the week of July 8th through the week of August 9th. 
Days of the Week: Choose between Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays sessions. 
Time: 10:30am - 11:30am 
Location: Anita Murphy Tennis Courts at Lewiston High School - 156 East Ave, Lewiston 
Cost: $95.00 Lewiston Resident, $105.00 Non-Resident
Equipment: Tennis racket, comfortable clothing, sneakers, and a water bottle. Tennis rackets are available through the Lewiston Recreation Department. If you would like to borrow one for the season please email Alyssa Davis at aclark@lewistonmaine.gov. 
Description: This is a five week, twice a week program. Participants will learn to play with proper fundamentals through our game-based approach. They will fine tune tennis basics and cover all aspects of the game including stroke production, footwork, strategies, and tactics.
