These programs have body movement in mind! Wear comfortable clothes,sturdy foot ware,and bring a water bottle. #keepbodyandmindactive DROP IN PROGRAMS Registration is not required! Debbie Hallowell has been a Yoga practitioner for over 15 years, trained in many levels of yoga and uses the practice of Hatha during sessions at the Armory. One time around the court is about 200 steps. Its warm and the floor is a safe and smooth surface. We are open to those 50+ only on:Times: Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8:00 to 9:00 Gym Floor: You have access to the floor to play basket ball, corn hole..... FEE:Free -Sign in required upon entrance to gym Nordic WalkingAnother grant money opportunity was presented to us and we are all in! The Lewiston Senior Advisory Council has also donated grant money to purchase walking sticks. Nordic walking sticks are used to extend your arms and engage the upper body, turning a regular walk into a full-body exercise. They help increase forward propulsion, improve posture, reduce joint stress, and enhance cardiovascular fitness while walking outdoors. We are looking for fourteen 50+ participants to sign up for this series of walks. The walking sticks will be loaned to you for approximately 6weeks to take home as well attend these 45-minute walks once a week. This is a free program, and the walks will start off at Bates College for the first 2 weeks and the following 4 weeks will be at differentlocations. The different location will vary, and transportation will be provided to you on our Recreation Bus which will leave from the Lewiston Armory. Youth Archery: Explore Sessions with Maine School of Archery - Youth Explore Archery: 4 sessions We are excited to explore archery with the Maine School of Archery! This is a great chance for youth ages 10 - 17 to come give it a try! In these fun and welcoming “Explore Archery” sessions, participants will learn range safety, proper shooting form, and foundational archery skills while building focus, confidence, and coordination. Take advantage of this opportunity to have fun, try something new, meet new people, and experience the challenge and reward of archery. Classes will be taught by expert instructors from the Maine School of Archery. No prior experience is required, just come ready to learn and have a blast.Dates: Tuesdays, September 1st - 22nd (4 sessions) Due to annual floor maintenance, program dates will be adjusted once the maintenance schedule is confirmed. The program may be extended through October 6th. (Chair Yoga, Yoga, Open Gym, Bates/Nordic Walking Club....) - Sept. 2026-June 2027 Open Gym-Indoor Walking Age Friendly activities are open to any person 50+ and no membership is required. These programs have body movement in mind! Wear comfortable clothes,sturdy foot ware,and bring a water bottle. #keepbodyandmindactive DROP IN PROGRAMS Registration is not required! Note: We do contact people regarding schedule changes via email so if you want up programs updates please register on link. Payment for session is due at the time of lesson.
Debbie Hallowell has been a Yoga practitioner for over 15 years, trained in many levels of yoga and uses the practice of Hatha during sessions at the Armory. All levels of skills are welcome in both classes.Chair Yoga Time: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AMFee For Yoga:$3 Lewiston Residents$4 Non ResidentsFREE Open Gym at the Armory!This program ends during the summer and will start back up again Sept 1st.Walking: Get your steps in! One time around the court is about 200 steps. Its warm and the floor is a safe and smooth surface. We are open to those 50+ only on:Times: Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8:00 to 9:00 Gym Floor: You have access to the floor to play basket ball, corn hole..... FEE:Free -Sign in required upon entrance to gym Nordic WalkingAnother grant money opportunity was presented to us and we are all in! The Lewiston Senior Advisory Council has also donated grant money to purchase walking sticks. Nordic walking sticks are used to extend your arms and engage the upper body, turning a regular walk into a full-body exercise. They help increase forward propulsion, improve posture, reduce joint stress, and enhance cardiovascular fitness while walking outdoors. We are looking for fourteen 50+ participants to sign up for this series of walks. The walking sticks will be loaned to you for approximately 6weeks to take home as well attend these 45-minute walks once a week. This is a free program, and the walks will start off at Bates College for the first 2 weeks and the following 4 weeks will be at differentlocations. The different location will vary, and transportation will be provided to you on our Recreation Bus which will leave from the Lewiston Armory. Youth Travel Volleyball Season - Jr. Blue Devils - Middle School Travel Volleyball Join the Lewiston Recreation Department this Fall as we begin our second year of Middle School Travel Volleyball! This program is for players who are interested in the sport and want to grow their skills where they will practice twice a week and then we will look to schedule games/play days with other towns throughout the season!
Who: Boys & Girls; Grades 6th-8th
Practice Dates: Mondays & Thursdays, Aug. 31 to Oct. 28th
No Practice Sept. 7th (Labor Day); Moved to Wednesday Sept. 9th at normal time.
Practice Times: 5PM-6:30PM
Picture Day: TBD
Practice Location: Most days will be at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave, HOWEVER, depending on when the gym floor is being re-finished, practices will be held at Geiger for a week or 2.
Games: Games/play days will be both Home & Away and can be a weekday or weekend matchup. Some may replace practice day as well. Will update here as they get added and on the program schedule.
Cost: $70 Res.; $80 Non-Res.
What do you need: Comfortable gym clothes & shoes, water bottle, knee pads. Lewiston Recreation will provide volleyballs at practice and all players will receive a shirt/jersey.
